Many are already familiar with the Greer Christian Learning Center and the tremendous impact it has in Greer and Blue Ridge Middle and High Schools. GCLC is a Released Time Bible Education program that began in 1997.
GCLC is unique among nationwide released-time programs in going beyond biblical instruction to offer one-on-one time with students through its HELP (hope, encouragement, love of Christ, prayer) ministry. This ministry provides an incredible opportunity for HELP staff to meet with students individually to discuss spiritual, emotional, and physical needs while pointing students to Jesus. Because roughly 50% of the students who participate in released time do not attend church, time with HELP staff can have a significant impact. In addition, GCLC has a bilingual staff member, further broadening its outreach.
Two of the statutory requirements for a Released Time Bible Education program are that instruction must take place off school grounds and no state resources can be used. The leadership of GCLC has been incredibly efficient and faithful in stewarding of resources which are provided by individuals, churches and businesses. Their locations directly across from Greer Middle School and Blue Ridge Middle School are beacons of hope which the ministry owns debt-free.
This brings us to our appeal. Our community is growing and school enrollment is increasing along with that growth. The request to participate at GCLC is increasing dramatically and they are already beyond capacity and are preparing to break ground on construction of a significant addition to their facility in Greer. Joshua’s Way will commit to match $25,000 in donations between now and December 15, 2025 designated for GCLC for the construction project. Will you assist with this effort to provide up to $50,000 to GCLC? Think of the potential of life transformation through introduction to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The benefit of seeing students with enriched spiritual understanding resulting in improved relationships, less risk-taking behaviors, and better life-coping skills is immeasurable.
In Him,
Dan Johnson
